THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
ANATOMICAL CLASSIFICATION
A- Central nervous system
1- Brain
cerebrum (cerebral cortex and subcortical centers)
cerebellum
brain stem(midbrain and pons and medulla oblongata)
2- spinal cord
8 segments:-cervical
12 segments:-thoracic
5 segments:-lumber
5 segments:-sacral
1 segments:-coccygeal
B- Peripheral nervous system
1- Cranial nerves
They are 12 pairs of nerves connected with the the brain
2- Spinal nerves
they are 31 pairs of spinal nerve
each pair originates from each segment of spinal cord
so we have the followings
8 pairs of cervical spinal nerves
12 pairs of thoracic spinal nerves
5 pairs of lumber spinal nerves
5 pairs of sacral spinal nerves
1 pair of coccygeal spinal nerves
PHYSIOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION
somatic nervous system
-Control the voluntary movements of the body
-Also called the voluntary nervous system
Autonomic nervous system
-It regulates the involuntary activities of viscera
-Also called the involuntary or visceral ervous system
