Hello my teachers. I think that but here means except and answering the question according to this meaning is the most suitable answer. But I have another two questions
Show that Axel was brave?
How did Axel's dream become true?

Show that Axel was brave

there are a lot of examples
he adreed to go with his uncle
he lit the fuse to explode the rock

he dreamed of the explosion of the volcano and his dream happened

But , for the first question,I think Axel was obliged to go with his uncle and we saw how frightened he was and tried hard to convince his uncle to give up the journey in many situations. Unlesshe had felt sorry for his uncle ,he wouldn't have told him the secret message. Concerning the darkness What should he have done? He didn't have any choice and he didn't do any thing showing that he was brave he was running and waving his hands like a mad man untill he hit the wall and fainted
But for the second question . After Hans had caught his starnge fish Axel dreamt that he would meat lizards whales and birds that no longer live on the earth and then he saw the two sea monsters. This dream is in the 2nd term but the other one is in the 1st term. thank you again my teachers
