I`m sorry I made a mistake in the last post and the correction is:
prefer to do = prefer doing : without any difference in meaning & both for general preferences.

To Mr. Abou Beshou (I hope I`ve spelt the name correctly.)
It`s OK to correct my mistake in Mr. Mazen`s post, but not in a different post. No one will get it unless it concerns him. Any way, thanks for waking me up. I double-checked and found you are right.

I tried to upload some more info., but all my files are Word 2007.

Both are correct, with no difference in meaning. But there is a difference in the structure:

I prefer something to something else.
I prefer apples to oranges.

I prefer doing something to doing something else.
I prefer eating apples to eating oranges.

I prefer to do something rather than (do) something else.
I prefer to eat apples rather than (eat) oranges.
