This is not accurate because we can say "sports center" as in unit four. We can also say"sports festival, sports page.

Both words as adjectives come only before nouns. Sporting means “relating to sports”. Sports means “relating to sports” or “used for sports”. Sports is the more common of the two adjectives

Sports centre means a center for sports

Go back to SB of the first year secondary, Unit 4, the author of the book used the word " sporty family " in the listening text

sporty for people who practise sports for fun but not athelets ( sporty family
sporting for persons or things that relating to sports as a job or event ( sporting hero -sporting event
sports used with ( centres - clothes - equipments....etc
