When you use (a debit / a credit / a post / an identity) card, you can buy things and pay later.

credit card : a small plastic card that you use to buy goods or services and pay for them later:
debit card : a plastic card with your signature on that you can use to pay for things. The money is taken directly from your bank account
cheque card
BFB a card given to you by your bank that you must show when you write a cheque, which promises that the bank will pay out the amount written on the cheque
cash card : a special plastic card used for getting money from a machine outside a bank
