The novel shows how far Egypt was rich in archaeological sites. Egypt's ancient tombs were full of rare and valuable statues of gold. This made robbers from all parts of the world try to look for unique treasures in tombs.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image4.gif
A band of robbers came after midnight to rob some tombs of the ancient Egyptians in the Western Desert. They used a machine called (GPR) Ground Penetrating Rader to find rooms behind the walls. When the robbers reached one of the underground rooms, they were attacked by unknown spiders. They got some gold masks and treasures and escaped but because the spiders had bitten them, they suffered great pain and eventually died. The accident was discovered by a pilot, a telecom engineer and a technician and was reported to the police. The boxes with treasures inside them were taken to the police station. The spiders in the boxes died of the heat but the biggest spider was still alive.

The female spider escaped .The female spider disappeared in Ayman's house and was about to attack Najat's foot, but the girl was lucky as her mother called her at that moment, so she moved her foot away.

Ayman Hassan, a young man who was a university student had a favourite hobby. It was the internet. He used the internet for his university studies and for making friends in other countries. Ayman was surprised when he saw the spider because of its speed and size. The spider was black with two thick yellow lines on its back and had eight eyes, eight legs and two long fangs.. After the spider had escaped from Ayman's in the empty house, Ayman began his attempts to identify the spider. Ayman contacted friend who was a student of zoology at his university to look up the spider in a book about spiders of North Africa, but he didn't find any information about this type of spiders.. Using the worldwide Web, Ayman sent a lot of messages through the internet to Dr Shereen Fakhry, Department of Egyptology, Oxford University who translated a text about a town in ancient Egypt whose inhabitants burnt it to get rid of the spiders that killed hundreds of people. Unfortunately the spiders found their way into underground tombs. Shereen received an ancient picture of a spider from an archaeologist in Egypt. The picture was found in a tomb near Bawiti.. Dr Shereen advised Ayman to tell the police as it might be dangerous .Ayman thought if he told the police, everyone would laugh at him as there were no deadly spiders in Egypt. A German Egyptologist told Dr. Fakhry about an ancient Egyptian medicine which was made from the root of Echinacea Negra plant. It was used for curing the bites of the deadly spiders.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image7.gif-
- Driven by her scientific desire to identify Ayman's spider, Shereen visited her friend Susan Bennett, a zoologist at Oxford university, but, Susan couldn't find any information about Ayman's spider on the database.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image8.gif.
Dr Shereen and Susan visited professor Jones to consult him. Professor Jones was a famous archeologist .He said that he had never seen this species of spiders before. Professor Jones thought the danger of the spider might spread through the world. Professor Jones decided to visit Egypt to identify this strange species.

. Ayman's uncle thought Ayman shouldn't tell the police about the spider because stories about dangerous spiders aren't good for business. If people believed Ayman's story, they wouldn't stay in the hotels or eat in the restaurants. They wouldn't buy the food products. As result, a lot of business would lose money. Ayman's brother brought the news that some police officers came to guard an archaeological site in the desert. He said that four men were killed there that morning from spiders' bites Ayman's uncle made a telephone call to the police chief, colonel Mikhail, who was a friend of his. Colonel Mikhail assured that the story was true, then Walid handed him to Ayman. Ayman told the police chief that he had seen the spider after the police had brought the boxes from the site.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image10.gif
The colonel asked Ayman and professor Jones to go to the archaeological site with the police. Colonel asked professor Jones to find one of the spiders and identify it. The police took special precautions to fight the spiders. They were going to wear protective clothing and would take special equipment, tanks of insecticide, fencing wire, big lights, weapons, tools and building materials.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image11.gif
Jones explained how ant venom was made. Scientists put some quantities of venom into animals. The animals make antibodies to fight the venom. The scientists extract the antibodies fromanimals. Professor Jones pointed out that the most difficult part in developing a new ant venom was extracting ant venom from the blood and making it safe for use. It could be many years before a safe ant venom is produced in large quantities. In the site Jones identified the species of spiders. They were the same as the spider Ayman had seen. If the spiders were an unknown species, the botanist Wafaa Sultan would be sent to Sinai to fetch the plant of Echinacea Negra used for the bites of the deadly spiders. This extinct plant grows only in Sinai. The colonel wanted them to bring the dead spider to send their venom sacs to an ant venom lab where scientists would begin work on an ant venom. Afterwards Jones, Ayman, Captain Ahmed and the other police officers attacked the cool dark place in the empty house to kill the deadly spiders. Finally, they killed the small spiders but the female spider escaped.
- Ayman was bitten by the small spiders at that battle. So, he was taken to hospital. Ayman wouldn't live unless the plants were brought from Sinai so that doctors could make some medicine from them and give it to Ayman. Wafaa, Farouk, captain Osama and some policemen reached Sinai to get the plant for Ayman. Wafaa and the policemen faced a lot of difficulties on their journey back. It was raining heavily. The wadis flooded with water. The road down the mountain was a narrow track.
Wafaa managed to come back with the plants after great suffering .
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image12.gif
- Ayman was in the intensive care. His condition was serious. His breathing stopped, but he was kept alive on a ventilator, Wafaa reached the hospital with the plant, A medicine from Echinacea was made and given to Ayman whose health began to improve.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image13.gif
Ayman was surrounded by his family. Suddenly, the deadly big spider appeared on the wall behind his sister's shoulder. Ayman took an immediate decision. He ordered his sister Lamia to keep still because he wanted to take a photo. He pressed a button on the camera. The camera's flashlight blinded the spider for a second. Ayman knocked the spider into the aluminum box, which he quickly shut.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image14.gif
The female spider managed to bite Ayman who fell to the ground senseless. Ayman didn't die when he was bitten by the spider for the second time. That was because when the venom enters the body of a person or an animal, the body begins to make ant venom to fight the venom. This was what happened to Ayman when he was bitten the first time. His body produced a lot of ant venom. When he was bitten a second time, he already had so much ant venom in his body, that the bite had little effect on him.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image15.gif
Ayman became the most famous and popular young man in Egypt as he had saved the lives of thousands of people from certain death. The minister described Ayman as a brave young man who was ready to give his life to save others. Without Ayman's intelligence and bravery, many thousands of people might have died. That is why he deserved praise and fame. Professor Jones gave Ayman a good camera, which was a "thank you" present. Jones said that Ayman could go and study at Oxford university if he wanted to. Ayman's father said Ayman wouldn't have to worry about getting a job.
His uncle Walid said that all best employers would want a man like Ayman. Ayman said that he felt like a new person with a new future.

1-Ayman
Hassan was a university student. He was twenty years old. He lived in a house next to the police station in a town called Hamdayya. His favourite hobby was the Internet. He used the Internet for his University studies and for making friends in other countries.
He was a keen observer. He noticed the big black spider with two yellow lines on its back. On seeing the spider, he began to collect information through the World Wide Web. His sense of duty made him take part in the fight against the deadly spider. He was a sociable young man who loved his family and his country and was fond of making friends. He was brave as, he was ready to give his life to save others.
2- Shereen Fakhery
She worked at the department of Egyptology at Oxford University. She helped Ayman a lot in the search for information about the spiders, She gave a translation of an old Egyptian text about a town in ancient Egypt, which was burnt out because of deadly spiders. She exchanged e-mails with Egyptian and German archaeologists. She informed Ayman about the Negra plant, she went with her friend Susan Bennett to meet Professor Jones to consult him about the deadly spider.
3-Professor Malcom Jones
Prof. Jones was the head of Zoology department at Oxford University. He was a famous archaeologist. He has discovered a lot of unknown species on his trips to south Africa and south America. He decided to travel to Egypt to study the unknown spider that Ayman saw. He exerted great efforts to help the police in search of the spider. He was so generous that he gave Ayman a good -camera as a present.
4- Susan Bennett
A Zoologist at Oxford University. She accompanied Dr. Shreen and visited Prof. Jones to consult him about the spiderthat Ayman. 5- Wafaa Sulta
She was a researcher of Botanical at Cairo University. She had information about the Echinacea Negra plant used to make medicine for the bites of the black and yellow spiders. She was brave and a sacrificial. She had a sense of duty. When the six men were kept back in Sinai, she drove back alone carrying the Negra plant.

11- Mr. Hassan : He was Ayman's father. 12-Mohammed : He was Ayman's brother.
13-Najat and Lamia :They were Ayman's sisters. Both of them escaped death as the female spider was about to bite each of them. 14- The robbers
There are four robbers The oldest man : He was the leader of the gang. He knew much about Egypt. He gave instructions and orders. The small thin man with glasses was carrying a machine like a small camera. The third tall man. He was carrying a small computer. The fourth big man who was carrying a big bag with tools.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image17.gif
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image18.gif
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image19.gif: It's used by the robbers to show things behind a wall. They used it to find underground rooms that contained gold. The archaeologists didn't use it as it was too expensive.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image20.gif: It's like a great library ,but information in this library is not books and it is not in one place, but it moves between thousands of computers around the world. It helped Ayman to communicate with Shereen who helped him to identify the female spider. It helped him to get information about the medical plant(Negra).
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image21.gif: Ayman could get in touch with Dr.Shereen and others to get a lot knowledge about the spider.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image22.gif: It is a large store of computerized data, especially lists of topics or abstracts of reports. Susan Bennet the zoologist who worked at Oxford University could find out information about that species of the spider on it.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image23.gif:http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image24.gif:We know from the story how the anti venom is made .Scientists put small quantities of venom into animals such as horses, and then the animals make anti bodies to fight the venom. Scientists can then extracts the anti bodies from the animals.
2http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image25.gif:From an old medical text we know that the ancient Egyptians had used "Echinacea Negra" which was extracted from the roots of a plant called "Negra". The medicine was the only treatment for the bites of the spiders. Wafaa Sultan ,who was the botanist went to Sinai to the plant to save a young man's life from certain death.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image26.gif: They played a very important role in the story. They are the people who are in charge of the security and safety. The chief of the police, Colonel Mikhail took decisive decisions in proper time. He ordered stronger protective suits for his men to protect themselves from the bites of the spiders. He ordered a barrier to be made
around the city to prevent anything in or out the town to make sure that the female spider would escape .He arranged for the Echinacea Negra to be brought from Sinai by Wafaa Sultan.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image27.gif: With the helpof the internet ,Ayman could contact specialists of arachnology and zoology across the globe as Prof. Jones and Suzan Benett.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image28.gif: It plays important role in the story although it was angry in Sinai.
http://www.thanwya.com/vb/Image29.gif: It was as big as a small apple. It had eight eyes and legs ,two fangs and its colour was black and yellow. It survived although the well equipped team's attack. It's also useful as it can eat insects and flies. It could produce about 2000 small spiders. It enclosed them in four silk sacs. It lost a leg during the fight with the well equipped team. It bit Ayman as a kind of revenge

Remember: This is a thrilling story
It's a kind of a scientific fiction
It's an adventurous one

All the archaeologists there died from spiders bites .

Uncle Walid phoned his friend colonel Mikhail who assured that information .

The colonel asked to meet Ayman and Professor Jones in his office at the police station .

On the way, Ayman and the professor saw men carrying protective clothing.

The officers would wear it to keep the spiders out.

At the police station, the colonel asked Professor Jones to find one of the spiders and identify it.

The professor went to his hotel to get his equipment.

1-How to make an antivenom:
Captain Ahmed knew that he should understand his enemy before fighting . So, he listened carefully to Professor Jones who spoke about the spiders . He explained how an antivenom was made . First scientists put small quantities of venom into animals, and then the animals made antibodies to fight the venom . Scientists could then extract the antibodies from the blood of animals which is the most difficult part This might take years as it had to be made safe to use and produce it in large quantities .
2- A new medicine for the spiders' bite
Ayman remembered and read Dr Shereen's e-mail. It contained more information about Echinacea Negra . The plant was almost extinct and only in Sinai .It was studied by a researcher in the Department of Botanical Science at Cairo University called Wafaa Sultan . Captain Ahmed called the Colonel on the radio to tell him about the plant. The Colonel said that if the spiders were an unknown species, they would send Wafaa Sultan to get that plant from Sinai.
3-At the site: Near the site, the three vehicles came to a high wire fence and gate guarded by two policemen . The vehicles stopped near some wooden buildings which the archaeologists had used . The men began to unload equipment, protective clothing, tanks of insecticide, fencing wire, big lights, weapons, tools and building materials
4-Going down into the tombs under ground :
Ayman, Professor Jones, Captain Ahmed and three officers went down into the tomb . They wore strong plastic black suits with no openings for a spider to get through . They breathed through a filter like a gas mask . They had thick transparent windows over their faces . They switched on the torches that they wore on their heads . The officers carried large sprays with insecticide tanks while the professor carried a machine that looked like a gun with a small petrol engine . When they reached the wide passage by following the same route the robbers had taken, the professor pointed at a place where many large webs were hung from the ceiling . Captain Ahmed ordered his men to guard the professor who took a large white sheet from the bag Ayman was carrying . The professor unfolded the sheet and spread it on the floor then he took out some long, thin, metal tubes and fitted these together to make four legs and a frame to make if ready to catch spiders
5-Catching spiders The professor switched on the smoker that poured out hot poisonous smoke which spread up to the ceiling . Dead things fell into the white sheet. He switched the smoker and the engine off. Twenty small insects and spiders were on the sheet. The professor picked up three of the largest spiders and examined them with a magnifying glass and found that they were all adult males . Ayman said they were the same as the spider he had seen but they were half as big . The professor put them into a box in his bag .
6- A big spider attacks one of the officers
Suddenly, a spider twice as big fell onto the sheet, it wasn't dead and jumped into one of the young officers . It covered the man's face mask and its fangs tried to kill. The other two officers used the insecticide sprays and the spider fell to the ground. The professor examined it and found that it was a female . Suddenly, it jumped and escaped into darkness . The officer was coughing badly and fell to the ground . The captain ran to him and found that the spider's fangs had broken through his mask. The captain and Ayman carried the injured man out . The professor carried the bag with the three spiders . There was no blood on his face . The professor said he just breathed in some insecticide .
7-The professor is against destroying the spiders .
The professor said the spiders were an unknown species . It was not on the database . The captain wanted to destroy all the spiders in the site because his job was to prevent any more deaths, but the professor said it was impossible to destroy them because this was a great scientific discovery . The spiders lived in underground rooms and passages, so some of them will live . In addition, the archaeological site would be damaged . The captain promised the professor to pass his opinion to the colonel to reach a solution . Captain Ahmed ordered his officers not to let anybody come near the site and not to let
anything leave without careful search .
H8- The captain receives the colonel's instructions
The captain called the colonel on the radio . The colonel wanted him, the professor and Ayman to return to the town and bring the dead spiders to send their venom sacs to an antivenom lab . It was arranged for the botanist, Wafaa Sultan, to travel by helicopter to Sinai where the police would take her into the mountains to get the plant. The professor hoped the spider hadn't produced its young yet

2- Main Points
• Three cars driving in bad weather:

The storm began when the three cars started the journey down the mountain.

Wafaa was in the first car, a big powerful 4-wheel-drive vehicle with another botanist, Farouk, and a police officer called Osama. Two more officers followed in the second car, which was a light jeep

The third car was similar to the first. There were two more officers in the car. The plants that the team had collected were in the back of the car.

•A difficult and dangerous road

The road down the mountain was a narrow track. It was very steep. On one side of the track was a wall of rock. On the other side was nothing. The valley was hundreds of metres below. There was lightning and thunder. Then heavy rain started. The road became a river. The cars switched on the lights.

Crossing the wadis (valleys)

The road began to disappear. The captain said that the water flooded the wadis, they would not be able to cross them. They had to cross three wadis. When they came to the first wadi, it was full of water. The cars got across safely although the water was about half way up the
Wheels . The second wadi was wider and the water was higher, but the cars managed to cross. Then, the captain's face became dark and tense. He said that they were out of time. He meant that the next wadi was twenty minutes away and the water would be too deep by that time. He began to drive dangerously fast.
• The third wadi: When they arrived at the third wadi, Captain Osama stopped the car. The wadi was about 40 metres across. The water was brown, fast and deep. A dead palm tree was carried past them in the water. The tree crashed into a rock and then continued on. As the car moved slowly, the water started to pour in under the doors. But then the car came up and they were out. They stopped and waited for the second car.The second car moved sideways because it was light. Suddenly, it was on its side and water carried it fast. The Jeep crashed into the rocks and got stuck between two big rocks. The two men climbed out of the water onto a rocky island. The third car was waiting on the other side. It was difficult to see it through the heavy rain. Captain Osama walked to the edge of the water and shouted, "You have the plants. You must come across." Farouk was worried because they did not have much time. He cupped his hands to shout. While the car was over half way, its engine stopped. Then a palm tree smashed into it and it rolled up on one side and sank down. Farouk and Wafaa said that they should get the plants which were in Sinai. Captain Osama attached a towrope to the car, and towed it until it almost reached the land.

Wafaa Sultan, the courageous woman
She climbed onto the third car, opened the door, and carried the plants back to the captain's car. She was terrified because the rain got heavier and thunder exploded around her. But she said to herself that she had a young man's life in her hands. She drove through the storm, fighting her fear.
