في مثال أقول
sporting event ولا sports event مع التوضيح لو سمحت

شكرا للرد بس إللي محيرني إنه في المنهج القديم كان جايب sports event وحتي الكلمة دي جات في امتحان ثانوية وماكنش في في الختيارت sporting كان في sports وهي كانت الإجابة الصحيحة ......سبحان مغير الأحوال

لأ يوجد فرق أبداً بينهما و الأسئلة الموجودة فى الكتب الخارجية لا تقوم على أى أساسز

I think the dictionary (http://www.ldoceonline.com/) is clear on the meanings of these words. Please check it. Sometimes usage varies from American to British. For example, I (American) prefer to say sporting goods store, but sports goods is also correct. Some meanings overlap, so both could be used.
Both sports event and sporting event are used (and therefore, correct). A sporting event is a multi-sport event. A football match is a sports event.
