GETTING AROUND The first word that comes to mind about mobility down the shore is hassle. And it is, if you're sitting in something with four wheels. Instead, ride a bike. Consider the attraction: It's so easy a child can do it. It's relatively inexpensive. It's good for you. It requires no non-renewable energy sources. It doesn't degrade the environment. And you can park it virtually anywhere. The resort boardwalks are the most popular tracks, and usually restricted to early morning rides. Tooling around the streets is admittedly tricky, but biking is still better than trying to drive. And if enough people take to two- wheeling, maybe the resorts will set aside bicycle paths. In an effort to promote bicycling, New Jersey publishes a guidebook that includes information on bike clubs and organizations, county maps, commuting tips and short and long-distance tours. To get one, write to William Feldman, Pedestrian/Bicycle Advocate, New Jersey Department of Transportation, 1035 Parkway Ave., Trenton, N.J. 08625. If you own a bicycle, take it along. If you don't, you can rent one. A SHORE FAVORITE It is known to scientists as Callinectes sapidus, the Latin name for the beautiful (calli) swimmer (nectes) that is savory (sapidus). A fitting name for the New Jersey blue crab. The pursuit of this feisty crustacean is a tradition enjoyed by old and young alike. One of the more common methods is to use a box or star (triangular) trap,
