Rassendyll meets the King’s men, Colonel Sapt and Fritz von Tarlenheim in the forest of Zenda. He meets the King as well أand discovers that they look extremely alike. They get on well and have a meal together on the night before the coronation. Unfortunately the King is poisioned by his evil brother, Duke Michael, who wants the throne for himself. Colonel Sapt persuades Rassendyll to impersonate the King so that the coronation can take place at first Rassendyll refuses as he is an English man and the king won't forgive him Rassendyll accepts for sake of Ruritania . Sap sets a good plan to rescue the coronation and to get the king back to the palace. They put him in a cellar helpless because of his gluttony with Johan' s mother who overhears their plan. Rassendyll begins his day walking in the old part whose people support the Duke to gain all the credit and courage, he meets the King’s betrothed, Princess Flavia. With the coronation successfully accomplished in Strelsau, Rassendyll and Sapt return to where they had left the real King. After they went out of the palace through a serect passage and a p**** in the wall, they heard Micheal and his servant Max Holf speaking on the road. They want to make sure if every thing goes well. Rassendyll and Sapt find out that Duke Michael has kidnapped him and killed his servant Jossif. It becomes Rassendyll’s task to continue acting as a king. Rassendyll and Sap decide to take revenge for Jossif. Sapt and Fritz thinks that the real King is still alive as only three of Michael’s famous Six – a Frenchman (de Gautet), a Belgian (Bersonin) and an Englishman (Detchard) – are in Strelsau. They think the other three – the Ruritanians (Lauengram, Krafstein and Rupert Hentzau) – are guarding the King at Zenda. Rassendyll meets Michael and three of the famous Six while he is paying Flavia a visit. Raasendyll does his role perfectly although he makes some mistakes. He becomes professionally good at covering them. Rassendyll's life has changed , he has become a man with heavy responsibilities. Rassendyll receives a letter from Antoinette de Mauban, Michael’s French guest . Rassendyll protests against being followed by six men where ever he goes. Sapt tells him Micheal ' men will take the chance to kill you and if you disappear the game will come to an end. She writes the letter at the order of Micheal to trap Rassendyll. She doesn’t want to see people being killed,so she decides to help him . Rassendyll meets Antoinette at a summer house, where he knows the plan of getting of him. He is Killed and his body will be thrown into the old part and Sat and Fritz are accused of killing him and a messenger sent to Zenda to kill him. He is nearly killed by the three of the famous Six. Rassendyll uses an iron table in the summer house to protect himself and manages to escape. Detchard offered him 5oooo English pounds and a safe jounery to the border , but Rassendyll refuses because he is a man with principles and he doesn't trust them. Rassendyll is told to ask Flavia to marry him durning the ball.. He decides to tell her the truth because he is a man with principles. He finds it is hard to play this part and decieves her. She has to know every thing about her future husband , but Sapt tries preventing him. Rassendyll visits Flavia to warn her. Rassendylltells him to guard the Princess .He will send a message to him every evening. If he doesn’t get a message for three days, he has the authority to say that he is now the head of Strelsau. He must then ask the Duke to allow him to see the King. If he doesn’t see the King in twenty-four hours, he must say that the King’s dead. Then he must tell the people of Ruritania that their new ruler will be Princess Flavia. Rassendyll says it is because of his injured finger. It might be a problem for Strakencz because people might think the order from the King is not a real one.Rassendyll heads to Zend justifying that he is going to hunt an animal.( Micheal) Flavia warns him.Rassendyll and Fritz go to the inn safely as there are a lot of people on the road, They meet the inn keeper daughter who mistakes him .She is asked to persuade Johan to meet the king. Rupert Hentzau comes to see Rassendyll to deliver a message from Michael.Rupert visits Rassendyll two times . At the first time he justifies not receiving in Micheal's mansion as Micheal and his men have serious serious sickness. (It is not true.). The Duke offers Rassendyll a safe journey to the border and a million gold pieces. Rassendyll refuses. At the end of the meeting Hentzau tries to kill him; Rassendyll is wounded. Michael’s forest guard , Johann, falls into a trap which Rassendyll has set, and tells him about the Duke’s plans and the pipe which has been built to rid of the real king 's body..Surprisingly , Johan is happy to work with the king and he works only for Micheal because he is afraid of him. Johan tells them tha tthere is an outer room with no windows. It is always guarded by three of the Six Men. The King is kept in chains in the next room. Its window has a large pipe that leads to the castle moat. when some people attack the castle they will kill the King and then put him into the pipe. The chains will keep the body under the water of the moat. The guards can then go out the same pipe and swim across the moat to escape. And when many people attack the castle , they also kill the king but this time Micheal accuses one of his men that he is rude to his guest so he put him in the prison instead of the late king. Rassendyll becomes worried. He needs two things to save the king ; miracle and someone betrays him. Three pieces of news arrive at Tarlenheim house the next day.The people of Strelsau heard that the King was badly injured while hunting. The Duke thought he was badly injured. The Princess ordered Marshall Strakencz to take her to Tarlenheim to see the King.Flavia comes to see Rassendyll when she hears he is wounded. It is a strange war in the history because at the time of peace near a town Rassendyll ( the pretend king) and the king 's brother acted out a war for the sake of the real king' life with a few people know about it . Johann brings the news of the real King that is growing thin and ill, so Rassendyll, Sapt, Fritz and seven men set out for the Castle of Zenda to rescue the King. Johann’s brother Max was killed by Rassendyll although he doesn't want b to but it's a war, Lauengram, Krafstein and three of the King’s men are killed in the fight .Rassendyll never went goes to the station to get his bags because he was pretending to be the King. The Chief of Police is looking for Rassendyll because he has disappeared. (His family has not heard from him.) Rassendyll tells that he looks into the matter himself and after two weeks come to have the truth.Rassendyll meets Rupert the next day who offers to Rassendyll to help him attack the castle. But Sapt, Fritz, Michael and the King must all die. Then Rassendyll can stay as King and Rupert will be given a reward (money). He realises that it's high time to take a move To the Zenda. He persaudes Johan to go back to the castle in return of 500000 gold pieces to open the front door to Sapt's men to enter the castle. There are new servants who don't know who the prisoner is . Micheal discovered that Antoinette helped Rassendyll in the summer house. He cannot trust her now.Rassendyll sends a letter to Antoinette de Mauban to cry out at 2 o'clock to make Micheal go out of his room so as to enable them to take him. The drawbridge has been pulled up for the night. Rupert is doing something secret, so he does not use the bridge. Antoinette has to cry for help one o’clock. because she is being attacked by Rupert. He wants to punish her for writing to Rassendyll. Rassendyll was in the moat and sees Rupert stabs both Micheal and Johan. Rassendyll is worried about Johan. Rassendyll doesn't use a gun because he doesn’t want to make any noise and attract other people.Rassendyll takes them from De Gautet’s clothes after he kills him. Bersonin gets killed in the first room. In the room where the King is, the doctor is killed by Detchard, and Detchard is killed by Rassendyll. The King and Rassendyll are both wounded. The King is weak from illness and in chains. He can’t move much because of the chains. He helps Rassendyll by pushing a chair into Detchard as he is fighting. (This makes him lose his balance and fall over the doctor’s body. Then it is easy for Rassendyll to kill him.) Rupert runs away after being shot by Antoinette and Rassendyll follows him into the forest. Rassendyll could catch Rupert who takes the boy 's horse who is the main cause of discovering the game. Because Fritz comes with a gun and Rupert knows he can’t fight both of them. (A gun can kill from a distance. Fritz can kill Rupert from a distance before Rupert can kill Rassendyll with a sword.) The boy runs out and says the King is behind the tree, but Strakencz and the Princess think that the King is in the castle Sapt has a problem to explain this. He asks the Princess to come alone because he doesn’t want Marshal Strakencz to know about Rassendyll. Sapt doesn’t want his men or the servants to see who the prisoner really is. They think that the King is wounded in the fight to rescue the prisoner, and that the prisoner went after Rupert Rassendyll waits until hecan go into the castle under the cover of dark. He doesn’t want anyone to see him.Rassendyll takes his responsibilities as King seriously and tries to run the country well. He risks his own life to rescue the King.. He learns responsibility, how to do the (morally) right thing. But refuses to work with Jacob Borrodaile
