Freedom House is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for candidates and host organizations to participate in the following programs, upon the availability of funds:
1) Two-Month Fellowship Program to the United States:
This is Freedom House’s traditional visiting fellows program. The 2-month program is intended for human rights defenders and democracy advocates. The program expands the horizons of young civil society leaders by providing an intensive week long training on civic engagement, a five-week fellowship where participants have the opportunity to interact and work with American counterparts, and a link to the Blue Umbrella website and International Solidarity Committee, which are networking and solidarity strategies to support civil society leaders.
The program is open to applicants between the ages of 25 and 40. English language fluency is required to function successfully in an American professional environment. This program will run from April 1, 2009, to May, 31 2009. For more information or if interested in applying to the program, please see the attached application form and announcement.
The deadline to apply is November 15, 2008 to

This 3-week program is intended for human rights defenders and democracy advocates that are interested in learning more about human rights documentation and its application. Using the South African context for the study tour, participants will be given a brief history of South Africa and Apartheid and will also meet local non-governmental organizations that are documenting human rights abuses.
The program is open to applicants between the ages of 25 and 40. English language fluency is not required to participate in the program. This program will take place beginning in February 2009. Freedom House’s International Executive Volunteer (IEV) Program transfers “how to” technical and managerial expertise to countries around the world by providing hands-on, practical training. Through IEV, Freedom House identifies, mobilizes, and sponsors qualified international professionals who volunteer to work side-by-side with their counterparts in governmental, non-governmental and media organizations for 3-months beginning either April or September 2009.
