I think the sentence "street children is" is a correct sentence in English not are why? because when you translate you
translate meaning by meaning so the meaning is "the problem of street children is
2-uglier is correct and more ugly is correct too like easier and more easy

street children is/are abig problem. Both are correct because we can say" my family is / are in the house. words like" team , council ,family , " are treated sing. and pl. as they consist of sub members.

ugly is a two syllable word so it can be more ugly or uglier as it also ends with a consonant followed by y
And that's an exception for some words.
