يامستر احمد عبد الواحد سؤالك سهل خالص والاجابه هى :
he had us work
وزى ماهو معروف من معانى have هو
. to cause to do something, as by persuasion or compulsion:
مثال على كده
i had my assistant run the errands
اجابات حضرتك بقى عاوزه تعديل بسيط
تانيا ماينفعش تحط سؤال وتحدد شخص معين يجاوب يعنى واضح انك بتختبرنى وده شيئ اسيبه للزملاء يحكموا عليه

اولا اعتذر لاستاذ عصام ولكن هذا كان من باب الدعابة وهو يعرف مدى تقديرى له بارك الله لنا فيه لانه شعلة نشاط فى المنتدى

Mr. Essam , I want to know the difference between adjectives ending in ed and ing

but without saying that ed describes humans and ing describes unreasonable

Adjectives ending with (ed) is used to describe the objective wheither it is a human being or a thing and adjectives ending with ing is used to describe the doer
I can simply say:
Amr is frightening
and
Amr is frightened
the difference is that Amr in the first sentence is the one who causes fear. while in the second sentence Amr doesnot cause fear instead he feels it as something else causes it.
I can also say:
The cat is frightening and the rat is frightened.
( notice they are both animals)
It is really misleading to say that adjectives ending with ed are for humans and those ending with ing are for things or animals.
I hope my answer is helpful

Today's question
Translate into English
لقد آن الاوان لكى نعيد الى الطفل المصرى البسمه وان نعيد لاولادنا ولبناتنا طفولتهم المفقوده فلقد اسهمنا جميعا بشكل او باخر فى قتل البسمه على وجوه اطفالنا واشقينا الاسره المصريه التى راحت تلهث وراء تعليم اولادها ودخلت فى مصاعب جمه تسببت فى كثير من الاحيان فى شقاء الاسره المصريه
(من كلمات الرئيس مبارك)

It's time to return the smile to the Egyptian child and to return to our sons and daughters their lost childhood as we have all contributed - in a way or another - to kill the smile on our children's faces and to tire the Egyptian family that has suffered for the children's education and has faced many difficulties which - in many times - has made the Egyptian family miserable.

I'd like my dear colleagues to translate these idioms for me
Frankly I know some of them such as I could shop until cows come home= I could shop for a very long time
they get on like a house on fire= they are always having problems and arguments
But I'd like to know the meaning of the following
that boy's eating us out of house and home
the food and drinks are on the house
Andrew's new musical brought the house down
the TV pictures really brought home to me the horrors of the famine
My mum brings home the bacon in our family

مستر/ عصام الجاويش 23-07-2009 05:52 PM

eat someone out of house and home
Fig. to eat everything that someone has in the house. That huge dog is eating us out of house and home. The entire football team came over and ate poor Sally out of house and home

bring the house down
1. Lit. to cause a house to collapse. The most severe earthquake in years finally brought the house down. The earthquake brought down all the houses on the hillside.
2. Fig. [for a performance or a performer] to excite the audience into making a great clamor of approval. Karen's act brought the house down. She really brought down the house with her comedy.
on the house if food or drink is on the house in a bar or restaurant, it is provided free by the owner We had to wait for a table so they gave us all gin and tonics on the house

bring home the bacon Fig. to earn a salary; to bring home money earned at a job. I've got to get to work if I'm going to bring home the bacon. Go out and get a job so you can bring home the bacon.
bring something home to somebody to make someone understand something much more clearly than they did before, especially something unpleasant These photographs finally brought home to us the terrible realities of war. It took an international crisis to bring it home to British politicians that they desperately needed allies in Europe.
