انا دائما عندى اعتقاد راسخ ان اللغه تعتمد على الحس اللغوى الى جانب القواعد وموضوع القواعد ده متشعب

وفبه اراء مختلفه جدا ليس كما يظن البعض
ان مانقوله لابنائنا هو لتقريب الصوره لهم لكن كما تعرف ان هناك استثنائات كثيره لكل قاعده ولاحظت فى المنتدى البعض يحاول الدفاع عن نموذج الاجابه وماورد فيه وكانه كتاب مقدس وهذا خطأ اللغه كما قال طه حسين يسر لاعسر ونحن نملكها وانا اعترضت على اجابات اخرى فى الامتحان ومنها اجابات قطعه الفهم الاختيارى وكنت اتمنى ان ياتى امتحان المستوى الرفيع افضل من كده لتشجيع الطلاب على اخذ المستوى الرفيع للغه الانجليزيه بدلا من المواد الاخرى لكن نموذج الاجابه محبط واجاباته بعضها غير صحيح وهذا سيؤدى الى تنفير الطلاب من اللغه كمسنوى رفيع

استاذي العزيز شكرا لك على ردك واهتمامك ولكن ماجعلني اكتب هذه الجمله هو انني وجدتها في المنهج الجديد في في كتاب المعلم صفحة 143 وهذه صورة من الكتاب والواضح ان الحل هو ( at ) وليس ( on )

According to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English,

In most of the cases with the word "side" we use on:

on the right side of his face; on the French side of the border; on the other side of the world; on the left-hand side of the road; on this side of me; on either side of the stage (=one on the left and one on the right side of it); on the side of the bed; on only one side of the paper, on one side of the record; on the steep hillside.

But at is used is in these examples:

at somebody's side/at the side of something

A little girl was skipping along at her side.
There was a card tacked to the wall at the side of the photograph.

are all fixed phrases or idioms, cannot be changed

I know that the correct choice must either be "a" or "b". However, I feel that both of them are correct. Please clarify this matter for me.

Either is grammatically possible. #2, however, is the more plausible, since reference would most likely be to a particular group of other people, indicated by the use of the definite article.

With all my respect to The Englishclub, though English (بتاع بلاده), they would not know better than L. G. Alexander, a man who wrote not only grammar books but many grammar references as well as our famous secondary series Practice and Progress in the 1980s, and Excel into the 1990s in our Egyptian schools.

On page 135 of his BLUE set book for A-Level Right Word Wrong Word, (in the comparison between other / others / another), you'll find the very same sentence.

We're a long way ahead; let's wait for the other people/the others to catch up with us. (Not * the others people* *others*)

Here's my point of view supported by the author's point of view:

Firstly, L.G. Alexander gave us the only correct choices: the other people / the others and excluded the others people [because it is originally wrong] and others [because it is indefinite. There is no definite noun (before it) for it to be used. We must have a noun to refer to before we use others. We cannot assume any noun if it isn't there. That's why he gave the second choice the other people, to make us understand he is referring to the noun "people"].

Let's analyse the meaning of the sentence:
We're a long way ahead …
Ahead of whom?

Ahead of others? or ahead of the others?

Very clearly,

THE OTHERS (those who were walking with us and whom we'd like to catch up with us again)

Dear Essam Abdou,
I do believe that L.G. Alexander is not the only trusted person or reference in such problemtic sentences.The guy who answered my question is also a native speaker whose major is linguistics. I'm convinced that "the others" and "others" are grammatically acceptable.
