و اليكم my point of view
on the first two days
mr van was calm and quiet and so was the sea
but
on the next days
Mr Van became restless , worried
his restless is growing and so did the sea
the sea was responsive to his condition\ state
and suddenly the sea became rough
the waves became high
a strong was blowing

I agree with you that the condition of the sea on the fourth day was a reflection of Van's condition
However, the sea was not rough on the third day, was it? Anyway, such questions can be answered in different ways
