I just want to add that when we use Prefer to compare between to actions or things it must be followed by
Noun or V+ing Ex : I prefer reading to swimming Or :I prefer mathsto science |
As for the sentece mentioned
prefer to here means want to so it is followed by inf |

i think it was written taht way beacause we are talking here in general not specific time ..
so prefer + v.inf if it came would ,generally or at present hope i'm right :) |
