و السبب لأن معنى policy هو : A plan or course of action, as of a government, political party, or business, intended to influence and determine decisions, actions, and other matters: American foreign policy; the company's personnel policy.
مجرد خطة أو تنظيم لتنفيذ موضوع ما .
أما politics فهى The art or science of government or governing, especially the governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs.
فن ـ علم إدارة و حكم خاصة حكم كيان سياسى خاص بدولة ما
و لما كان المعنى المقصود هو المعنى الثانى فهو الأصح

أما politics فهى تعنى سياسة و هى مفرد أو جمع
أ. مفردة : إذا كانت بمعنى سياسة الدولة
ب- جمع : إذا كانت تعنى علم السياسة
