In Chapter three

Why is the verb "jump" used in the infinitive

The verb jump is still controlled by the phrase It did not take us long to. It did not take us long to reach ... and (to) jump ... . If the verb were jumped, it would require another subject.

I think it's really a mistake! I have already modified it into " jumped" feeling certain it suits this way
