According to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English,
In most of the cases with the word "side" we use on:
on the right side of his face; on the French side of the border; on the other side of the world; on the left-hand side of the road; on this side of me; on either side of the stage (=one on the left and one on the right side of it); on the side of the bed; on only one side of the paper, on one side of the record; on the steep hillside.
But at is used is in these examples:
at somebody's side/at the side of something
A little girl was skipping along at her side.
There was a card tacked to the wall at the side of the photograph.
