I agree with you that the students should know everything about the exam paper from the first time. Also, I usually start the first lesson with the language items just like you: mini-dialogues – speakers and places – translation – writing. These items add up to 29 marks out of the 50 total. We start dealing with the other items: grammar – vocabulary – story from the second lesson. These items add up to only 21 marks of the total.
