Died : 1950.
Winner of the Nobel Prize for literature in 1925 George Bernard Shaw was the youngest of three children for George Shaw and Lucinda Elizabeth Shaw. His father came from a good family but spent his money carelessly. His father used to drink and was unable to support his family.    
George went to schools but never went to university and was self-taught. From his father, he inherited a sense of humor. From his mother, a singer, he gained imagination, love for music, and self-dependence .
Shaw left school at the age of fifteen and went to work as an agent, collecting rent . Then he followed his mother, who had left his father, to London in 1876. Shaw hoped to become a writer. He wrote five unsuccessful novels. But he was successful with his journalism .  
In London , Shaw turned to socialism . He also took part in a demonstration in London . When Shaw failed in writing novels, he began to write drama. Arms and the Man is one of his successful plays.
