The Higher Education Open and Distance Learning Knowledge Base addresses the growing interest in the use of open and distance learning to extend access to higher education in developing countries. This project responds to the need for better understanding on how open and distance learning functions, and addresses concerns regarding the quality of education provided through ODL. In particular it aims to provide decision makers with access to information that will assist them in ensuring that the policy, planning and management of ODL are conducted appropriately and efficiently.

يوجه اهتمام قاعدة معارف التعليم الجامعي المفتوح عن بعد إلي الاهتمام المتزايد في استخدام التعليم المفتوح عن بعد لتوسيع نطاق الوصول إلي التعليم الجامعي في البلدان النامية

ويستجيب هذا المشروع إلي الحاجة إلي فهم أفضل لوظائف التعلم المفتوح عن بعد , و يعالج المخاوف بشأن جودة التعليم المقدم خلال التعليم المفتوح عن بعد و لاسيما و أنها تهدف إلي تمكين صانعي القرار من الوصول إلي المعلومات التي تساعدهم في ضمان أن تجري السياسات و التخطيط و إدارة التعليم المفتوح عن بعد بشكل مناسب و فعال
