Word of the Day: receive
The verb "receive" can often be used in place of "get." The level of diction for this word is higher (It sounds a little better), but you can't use it in every way that you can use the word "get."
- Dan got an email from his boss.
- Dan received an email from his boss.
- Patricia got a package in the mail.
- Patricia received a package in the mail.
- The students got rewards for their accomplishments.
- The students received rewards for their accomplishments.
- Our friends got some bad news yesterday.
- Our friends received some bad news yesterday.
but not...
- I got some milk at the store. (okay)
- I received some milk at the store. (no)
