On 9 August 2005, Cairo-based EgyptAir signed a purchase agreement with Boeing for six firm order B737-800s and further six on option.
The 12 aircraft were valued at $850 million. In November 2005 Boeing released that the six firm order aircraft were to be equipped with Boeing Electronic Flight Bag (EF
beginning in July 2006. On 2 October 2006, EgyptAir executed the option for six additional Boeing 737-800s.
