FIFA agrees on Egypt's mini league schedule, despite World Cup conflict

FIFA has agreed to allow the Egyptian Premier League to play its final phase in June, despite conflicts with this summer's World Cup, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Friday.

The Egyptian Premier League divided its current season into two groups, with the winners and runners-up in both Groups A and B qualifying for the final mini-league.

The domestic competition – 22 teams divided into groups – is now in the 18th matchday, with two weeks left to determine which four teams will qualify for the mini league.

The EFA sent a formal request to FIFA asking the international football body to allow Egypt to play the mini league during the same dates as the World Cup in Brazil, which kicks off on 12 June.

The EFA also assured FIFA that the mini league schedule wouldn't conflict with the World Cup's game times, as Egypt won't be taking part in the international tournament.
