Because Rassendyll as a fox,usually uses his mind to beat the duke depending on his power and influence as a tiger
when he challenged the Duke and tries to get his popularity among his people in the old part to support him if there is a fight between him and the duke. Also,he decided to make a secret plan to win the Duke's people's hearts by being close to the princess whom the duke planned to marry to become legally the king.

when he fought with his men in the hunting lodge to make him worry and to give him a message that he fights with a strong man.

He also decide not to tell any thing bad about the duke to show the people that they are one family.
When he succeeded to make Antoinette the Duke's guest to take his side and work with his team

and Finally the clever plan to catch the duke and rescue the king
