6) Read the following passage ,then answer the questions:
The custom of the wedding ring is more than a thousand years old. Its meaning goes back to the time when a man went out and kidnapped a girl to be his bride. He tied her waist ,wrists and ankles with a rope to show that she was his property. Throwing rice at newly wedded couple as they depart symbolizes the hope that they will be blessed with children. The idea of the wedding cake comes from ancient Rome, where the bride and groom shared an unleavened cake made of flour, salt and water. This was thought to bring kids and future happiness. Today the wedding cake has fancy decorations and much white frosting. Most wedding customs are very old and they come from various lands. Throwing old shoes or tying them to the car of the newlyweds derives from a custom of ancient Egypt. There the father of the bride handed her sandals to the "groom ,symbolizing a transfer of authority. Historians are not sure when or where the engagement ring began to enter the picture ,but perhaps it began with the custom of giving a gift to the prospective bride
