Problems surround new tablet program in schools
Dec. 18, 2013 13:31 ![]() By AYA DEEBES CAIRO: Egyptian teachers who received tablet devices told Youm7 they have received insufficient training or internet access to use the new technology in their schools. Two weeks after Education Minister Mahmoud Abou el-Nasr visited schools in Aswan, Wadi Gedid, Matrouh, Red Sea and South Sinai governorates to distribute tablets, a teacher in the Fairuz School in Sharm el-Sheikh said only three teachers in the school knew how to use the devices. The teacher, H. H., said that many teachers were forced to bring books with them, and that students had already broken six devices, and another had been stolen. In Aswan, teacher A.A told Youm7 that tablets distributed to students at Mohamed Mekawy Yaaqoub School students are provided only an Arabic curriculum, despite it being a language school. A teacher at school in Matrouh said there are 33 high schools in the governorate, but the ministry distributed tablets in just one school: the only school the minister visited two weeks ago.
