I think it should have been "ages" and not "ago"
So, mey answer is
The roads were very busy so it took the taxi a long time to get to the airport .(ages
The roads were very busy so the taxi took ages to get to the airport .

زمن السؤال ماضى بسيط وده مش لازم يكون يوحى بأن الحدث تم النهارده عشان نقبل سواء الحل بتاع a long time ago أو a short time ago
Semantically speaking, both are incorrect.
