Sharaf: Clashes in Tahrir organized to spread chaos

wednesday Jun 29, 2011 - 16:23

D. Essam Sharaf

CAIRO: Egypt's Prime Minister, Dr. Essam Sharaf, said the clashes that started yesterday night in Tahrir Square were an organized attempt to spread chaos in Egypt.
Sharaf called upon all those who took part in the January 25 Revolution to help secure its achievements

During a telephone call with the television program 'Good Morning Egypt,'
Sharaf said he is still waiting for investigations to find the reality behind the situation. He said that as soon as investigations reveal who is to blame for the incident, those responsible will face severe punishment.
"We are hoping that matters continue as they have regarding the increase in security and strength," added Sharaf.

Regarding the demands of the martyrs' families, Sharaf said a fund and several projects are being created in order to help them. Many doctors have also offered them free medical charge, and we are examining the possibility of that, he added.
Sharaf said the police was trying to protect public property last night. The police did not use violence unless they were responding to violence. Sharaf also said he is working on improving the performance of the police.
