THe three short stories
 
The face on the wall

1-What kind of events were they talking about?
They were talking about unusual events that had no natural explanation.
2-What did the storyteller say about his story?
He said it was a true story, It happened to him personally and completed itself
that afternoon.
3-Why were there *****es on the wall?
It was an old house and the place was damp.
4-What was strange about one of the *****es?
It was like a human face but it was unusual.
5-Where did the storyteller search for that face?
He went to places where men collected in large numbers such as political
meetings and football matches.
6-Where did the storyteller see a man with face?
He saw that a man in a taxi.
7-What did he do to follow that man?
He took another taxi to follow him. then a train and a boat
8-“Excuse me, but would you mind giving me your card”

a-That was said by the storyteller to Mr. Ormond Wall.

c-He fainted because it was the same name of the street and the second name was wall.

It fainted then disappeared when the man died.
11-What are the three extraordinary things about that story?
1-The face on the wall in London was like a face of a man in America. It disappeared when the man died.
2-The man’s name was related to the place where the face appeared.
3-The storyteller made the story up half an hour before telling it.

The mountain behind it kept the wind off.

It was smooth ,solid and glassy because there was no wind.
6-What question did the writer ask the officer?
He asked him if he had ever been on a ship when someone jumped into the sea.
The officer surprised because it actually happened at that place.
7-How did the passenger jumped into the sea?
He jumped with his feet first, then he climbed up the ladder and looked at
his watch then he went to his room.
8-Why didn’t the officer tell the captain?
If the captain had known, the officer would have got into trouble.
9-Why didn’t the officer blame the passenger?
He thought he was coming back to work in the island where it was very hot.
10-What did the writer feel when the ship moved?
He felt it was like getting out of prison so he didn’t to see it again.

He was going to New York to show his two precious diamonds “The Rozelles”.

He wanted Benting to watch over his two diamonds.
He knew that he was restless so he wanted a man with a cool head.
8-Where did Van keep his two diamonds?
He kept them in a small black box in a leather case. He kept it in the ship’s safe.
9- How was the sea on the fourth day?
The sea was rough because of a strong wind.
10-How did the little box fall into the sea?
When the sea gave a sudden and violent roll, Van seized the iron railing ÇáÓÝíäÉ but he dropped the box into the sea.
11-What did Woodward suggest to get the little box?
He suggested to tell the captain to stop the ship. But it wasn’t practical as the ship was fast, the ship would have been two miles away. Also the captain would refuse to look for a little box in such a rough sea.
12-What did Mckeown suggest to get the little box?
He suggested swimming to get it back. But it wasn’t practical because he wouldn’t find it as the ship was fast and the sea was rough.
13-What was Benting’s quick decision?
He quickly threw a table and two chairs into the sea. He easily persuaded the captain to get back to that spot to get back the little box.
14-“ Well done! I hope the old Dutchman paid you extra”
