if it is passive it must be followed by another sentence

The first line which was opened in 1989 , streches fro Helwa to E-Mrage

ولذلك لا يحتاج ان يتحول الى المجهول ويكون المعنى سليم

There`s a similar sentence on WB P. 18 Ex. 2 Find the mistake No. e

Our school was opening exactly 25 years ago today.

The correction is opened/was opened

because open is both transitive and intransitive in this sense

Here is an extract from Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English 5th Edition

As you can see, when "open" is used with shops , restaurants...., etc. (things that customers usually go to), the verb is intransitive
I think the matter is clear now.

Here I quoted both Definitions :No 5 & No 6

As you can see

In Defintion No 5
"Open" can be used both Intransively and Transively
The subject can be people who operate the shops or the shops themselves.
None of the examples given by the dictionary are in the passive form. (I know it is a dictionary not a grammar text book. Al least a dictionary uses the most common language)

In definition No 6:

The subject of "open" is only shops, restauratnts ....etc.
The dectionary here says that the verb is "intransitive".

What do you think now, away from grammar argument, the appropriate usage of "open" is, if you are going to coin a sentence of your own?

I know both are correct.
What I want to say is that using it transitively is more common.
