Examples:

- No sooner had she put the baby to bed than the telephone rang.
- Hardly had he gone out, when it began to rain.
- Scarcely had they switched the television on when the light went out.
- Neither does he obey his mother nor does he stop asking her for money.
- In vain did I try to persuade him.
- No longer do people use oil lamps.
- Only when a person is sick, does he realize the value of health.
- Only by being very careful can a driver avoid killing other people or himself.
