The Role of the Internet in the Egyptian Revolution
I reveal no secret when I say that the internet has greatly affected our lives in all aspects of life. Among the most outstanding effects are the educational, cultural and political effects. The political aspect is the main concern of this paper. And this has appeared clearly through the Egyptian revolution. The users of the Internet especially youth could benefit from the social communication websites such as Facebook and Twitter. They used these sites firstly to prepare groups which called for demonstration all over the state in an agreed day and time. Then they could spread their social and political demands to all classes of the Egyptian society. More over, when the revolution sparked the demonstrators exchanged information, opinions and orders so they could put alternative plans to be able to continue. On the other hand, the protesters used the internet to show their issue to the whole world to gain their sympathy and encouragement. They also could spread the demerits of the former regime to the whole world. And as a result, thanks to modern technology especially the internet, the Egyptian revolution could succeed and has achieved most of its goals such as the former president to step down and to put an end to the emergency law. To sum up, the internet plays a great role in our daily life and that role will continue to bring happiness to the next generations.
