"It's hot in here." Why don't we say "It's hot here"? Is there a difference?
(1) It's hot in here. (2) It's hot here. In sentence (1), here is a noun (meaning "the present pla ce or juncture"). You would say It's hot in here if you're talking about an enclosed place such as a room, tent, or building. In sentence (2), here is an adverb. You would say It's hot here if you're talking about an open place such as a garden, city, or country. |
