(RNA) into the “language of amino acid The actual translation from the language of nucleotide sequences to the language of amino acid sequences is performed by small RNAs called transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and enzymes How is the language of nucleotide triplets translated into the language of amino acids? A molecule called tRNA, or transfer RNA, performs this translation. One end of the tRNA molecule contains an anti-codon that pairs to a particular mRNA codon, and the other end of the tRNA molecule is an amino acid binding site that binds only one kind of amino acid. A molecule of tRNA thus speaks the nucleotide language on one end and the amino acid language on its other end. tRNA can therefore serve as a translator. Label the arrow that travels from mRNA to Protein as “Translation.” You could put “tRNAs” in parentheses to remind yourself that these are the molecules that perform translation. |
