They are both correct. Teachers (and others) need to get over this idea that there can be only one way to say something.
If someone is struggling in the water, I’m not going to debate which future form to use; I’m going to shout for help. My feeling is that my choice of verb might depend on how close to drowning the person is. If he just fell in, perhaps I’d use will (a prediction). If I can see that he’s really struggling, perhaps I’d use going to (present reality). Then again, the contracted form ’ll drown is the shortest, so I might use that just because it’s short and sounds urgent.
