education in egypt is facing critical problems connected with the structure and circumstances of the educational system as a whole which, in turn, hinder effective teaching and learning at all levels .
according to the recent national census, the population off egypt is about 90 million and the growth rate is 2.2 % . because of the fast growth rate of the population with the resulting inctease of school age children,.... the govemment finds itself in a situation where it needs to build tow primary schools everyday just to keep up with the current enrolment level ( salmi. 1990 :100 ). the government builds about 1500 schools every year (nearly four schools every day ), just to cope with the large number of pre-university pupils . compared with the international rates of class size which range from 25 to 30 and both the pupil / teacher ratio and average class sizes in england which are 22 / 1 and 26.4 respectively ( moore,1993:4), the pupil / teacher ratio and class size in egypt are , indeed, in a deteriorating position . this situation has, naturally, negative effects on the quality of the teaching / learning processes inside classes . ولكم كل الشكر |
