Would you agree with me if I said that the following sentence has something wrong

Here is the sentence
It seems that a king's life is quite hard, but a pretend king's life is even harder

I think "pretend" can't be used as a noun, can it? - And it isn't even followed by of, for example

Can "pretend" be used as an adjective? - I looked up many sources and all I got was that it is only a verb

There is another sentence on page 41 with the same word. This means that it is NOT wrong . And if it isn't wrong, then what's the explanation

Mr Mohsen, have you checked Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary?, It says, one can use pretend as an adjective in informal speech to mean imaginary, but it must be used before a noun.
